• Barton family member: Lonzie's mom ‘evil'

BAKER COUNTY, Fla. - Shirley Barton, Chris Barton’s aunt, said Tuesday that Lonna Lauramore Barton is “evil” and “I think she has something to do with it.”

Barton made her comments less than a day after Lonna Barton was released from the Duval County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Lonna Barton, the mother of missing 21-month-old Lonzie Barton, is due back in court Sept. 9 on a charge of felony child neglect and withholding information from police. Her husband Chris Barton was by his wife’s side during her initial court appearance last week, telling Action News Jax that Lonna was “absolutely not” guilty of harming her child.

“Chris is my nephew, and I love him, and I don’t understand how in the world he’s sticking up for her,” Shirley Barton said. “I’m so mad at Chris right now for sticking by her.”

Ruben Ebron, the boyfriend of Lonna Barton, was in court in Baker County Tuesday for an unrelated drug charge. He has been the prime suspect in the #FindLonzie case.

Ebron remains in the Duval County Jail. Shirley Barton said she wishes Lonna Barton was still there, too.

“I’d love to see her back in jail because I think she has just as much to do with it as (Ruben Ebron) does,” Shirley Barton said.

Lonzie Barton has not been seen since July 24. Since then, numerous searches — private and public — have yielded few clues.

“If that baby is dead, I want whoever did it to be punished for it,” Shirley Barton said.
