JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Highway Patrol said a person was killed and four people were hurt in a crash involving four vehicles in North Jacksonville on Monday night.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. on North Main Street at Busch Drive.

A 2007 Nissan Sentra, driven by 70-year-old John Hirte of Cincinnati, Ohio, was traveling southbound on Main Street at a high rate of speed. The Sentra ran a red light and struck a 2007 Pontiac G6 traveling eastbound on Busch Drive on its driver's side.

The driver of that vehicle, 44-year-old Erica Johnson of Jacksonville, died at the scene.

Hirte also had a passenger in his vehicle, 63-year-old Pamela Hirte, also of Cincinnati. They were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Johnson's vehicle became redirected after it was struck and collided with a GMC Sierra pickup and a 2010 Lexus RX350 that were stopped at the traffic signal in the northbound lanes of traffic, FHP said.

The driver of the GMC Sierra pickup was not injured and the driver of the Lexus, 67-year-old Linda Peck of Jacksonville, and her passenger, 83-year-old Hiron Peck of Jacksonville, had minor injuries.

FHP said it is investigating the possibility that a medical emergency may have played a role in the crash.

Northbound and southbound lanes were blocked as troopers investigated the crash.
